Low Noise Condenser Microphone
Power Requirements
IMPORTANT - This unit requires phantom power at 48 volts, +/- 4 volts, in order to
operate. Each unit has been thoroughly checked before shipping, so if you do not
hear sound, check that the phantom power on your mixer or separate power supply is
switched on.
Microphone Cables
This microphone connects to a mixer or preamp via XLR cable (not included). The
microphone cable can have a profound effect on the sound of any microphone.
Even the nest microphones will sound poor if the interconnect cable allows noise
to enter, or causes distortion and loss of information. Use only the best microphone
cable your budget will allow. We recommend Mogami cable for the best results.
Thank you for choosing the MXL CR89 Condenser Microphone. For best results,
please take a few moments to read this manual and familiarize yourself with
proper operation and care of your microphone.

Care
Dust and foreign material can degrade the performance of a microphone over time so always
store the unit in its case. For vocals closer than 3”, use a pop lter or a foam windscreen to
avoid getting moisture on the diaphragm as this can substantially degrade the microphones
performance. Store the microphone in its original packaging in a cool, dry place along with the
included packet of silica gel. These steps will help keep the mic in proper working order and
sounding its best for many years to come.
General Characteristics
The MXL Cr89 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone wrapped in sharply
contrasted black and chrome. The sound is every bit as bold as the body; the Cr89 can
handle subtle acoustic guitar tones and loud vocals with the same sonic integrity. The
Cr89 has low noise circuitry and a very low proximity effect, making it ideal for up-close
recording. At home on instruments and vocals, the Cr89’s body design minimizes body
resonance while the tuned grill cavity reduces standing waves and harmonic distortion.
Shockmount
The high isolation shockmount may shift during shipping. Simply shift the elastic bands to
center the microphone in the assembly. Be sure that the wire clamp does not rest on the
chassis of the mount, as this impairs mechanical isolation. Slide the shockmount up the
body of the microphone and stop just below the pad switch for the most secure hold.
